First we had Billy Blanks as the infomercial fitness craze and now it is Zumba.
Yesterday, I asked this question to my friends on Twitter “If you are outside the fitness industry, why do you like Zumba?”
The answers:
- @kreativenotions: Zumba is a workout that doesn’t “feel” like exercise cuz yer too busy having FUN!
- @Familydreams: It’s great fun and suitable for all abilities. I’ve never smiled so much in a class.
- @GratefulKim: Cuz it’s fun, fun, fun!!
- @JustMeJustina: Cuz it’s fun!
- @TTC_Queen: It’s fun, I forget that I’m working out and it works!
- @Kismit1496: Cuz fatasses can do it
- @HealthyPeople: A non-ind. friend liked not having to go to a gym to take part.
- @djdjd04: because it’s FUN, you don’t feel like you’re wrkg out & you burn lots of calories!
- @FormHealth: no skill required and fun. People believe they can do it so they try it.
- @MYOBTrainer: I think we expect good looking Brazilian men to turn up to the class
A clear message if we are going to get Aussies more Active . . .there must be fun in exercise!
My question to the fitness industry is “Be honest, is what you deliver REALLY fun?”
If the answer was “yes” then surely we would have more people exercising in gyms or with personal trainers?

I absolutely agree! I do think personality of instructor has a huge amount to do with it! An instructor with charisma, looks good, is down to earth & can relate to everybody I think is streets ahead of the rest! What they teach maybe irrelevant?
As a fitness instructor i to look for the enjoyment and fun w ith my clients as it feeds my motivation and enjoyment also. Who said you cant feel a bit of “fitness pain” with a smile on your face, laughing is also an abdominal exercise
