Some say Justin is a visionary. Others say he was lucky for selling his health club before the global financial crisis of 2008. He says, “You make your own luck!”
Justin started in the fitness industry in 1989 as a gym instructor and then launched his own personal training business, way before personal training was mainstream. He has managed and owned fitness clubs since 1990 – not surprising considering he is a 3rd generation entrepreneur!
He has opened 2 green field health clubs, purchased 2 clubs, rescued members from 4 clubs that went broke and sold both of his clubs – the full gambit of business!
As a ‘hands on’ owner he represented the views of independent club owners for a decade. He was the first & last President of Fitness NSW and Vice President of Fitness Australia, so mixed it with the best of the Aussie politicians.
Justin is now the Managing Director of Active Management. He consults with small businesses worldwide in everything from start up & design to marketing & sales systems. He facilitates 4 Australian and New Zealand Fitness Round Tables which allows him to see a huge cross section of business models.
Since 1998, he has been an International Presenter, speaking on everything business in 12 countries and being invited back on numerous occasions. He uses his Aussie larrikin charm to get his messages across, so that attendees of his presentations are empowered to implement his ideas and make positive changes to their business.
Justin received the 2006 Fitness Australia Presidential Award, the 2008 Australian Fitness Network Presenter of the Year and the 2008 FitnessNSW Contribution to the Fitness Industry Award.
After a major health scare in 2004, Justin now shares with thousands of small business owners and staff of major companies how to create work-life balance. He is very much aware of what stress, too much work and not enough play can do to the body. You just have to go through JT’s YENO Wellness Quotient!
It is not all business for Justin!
In November 2008, Zoe was born to Robyn and Justin, after years of trying and IVF. As a proud father he enjoys shopping his little girl and nothing takes precedence on Mondays, as that is Daddy Day Care or Zoe & JT Time!
He is a keen rugby supporter and coach. He currently coaches Northern Suburbs 1st Grade in Sydney’s Premier Rugby competition and in 2009 was one of 18 elite coaches who completed the Advanced Coaching Program.
Justin is driven by ambition, passion and emotion, so you won’t be surprised that an objective in life for him is to “To increase the number of people exercising, so that there is less strain and financial burden on the Australian health system meaning future generations can enjoy the awesome life and opportunities that Australia offers.”

Nice blog. I got a lot of good data. I’ve been watching this technology for awhile. It’s interesting how it keeps changing, yet some of the core components stay the same. Have you seen much change since Google made their most recent acquisition in the area?
