Don’t Waste Your Time At The Gym – Rubbish!

This is the headline today in the Sydney Morning Herald . . . OMFG!

As I finished at the gym and was walking to the car I had a Tweet from Rob Barnes from Fitness Australia, suggesting I check out the SMH article. And when Rob sends me a message I know someone is hammering the fitness industry again!

I raced home – albeit slowly in Sydney‘s pooring rain. No shower and straight to the link.

What the . . .

Michael Jarosky didn’t slam gyms at all. In fact the article is full of quality information on how to maximise your work out.

Indeed, congratulations Michael on dispelling some myths. Hopefully you have motivated some people to adjust their work outs, ask for help or even train with a little more intensity.

My beef is with the SMH editor!

How can you put such an untruth as the headline. It is a complete mis-representation of the article. You should hang your head in shame. I get you are trying to sell newspapers and that negative headlines do this for you. But degrading the fitness industry and giving people another reason not to exercise is just plain rubbish.

Perhaps take a leaf from Juila Gillard’s comments last week when she said to the media “Just don’t write crap!” And SMH editor this is crap!!!!!!

The crux of Michael’s article is of value to the majority of gym users and he sums it up with: “To help those people get back on track with their fitness I have compiled a list of the top 8 things you should really try to avoid doing at the gym.” A statement that has nothing to do with wasting your time at the gym. Indeed, Mr or Mrs Editor . . . any exercise is better than no exercise!

If you missed the article here is the link: http://www.smh.com.au/executive-style/fitness/blogs/boot-camp/dont-waste-your-time-at-the-gym-20110708-1h6co.html#ixzz1SmmhEaQ2

As a special note to Michael Jarosky, I love and support your concluding statement: “Just do something that combines fun and intensity and watch what you put into your body.”
