Before rugby yesterday, I had to race one of our players home to get his boots – he left them behind and don’t ask me how or why! But when I dropped him off, I parked in the driveway as the road was quite busy.
While he rushed inside, a blind person was walking down the foot path, which I had blocked like a numbskull! So I reversed back and allowed the blind person to keep walking and not worry. Immediately, I got thinking “Wow that could be really dangerous.”
This morning I was reading the NRMA magazine Open Road when I read about Think BeforeYou Park – www.thinkbeforeyoupark.com.au. This is a campaign in NSW/ACT to raise awareness of vehicles parking across foot paths – exactly what I did yesterday! [insert music from Twilight Zone!]
A survey conducted by Guide Dogs NSW/ACT found that 77% of impaired vision people had difficulty getting around their community owing to vehicles parked across foot paths – a challenge that never occurred to me, until yesterday.
It would be great if you could help spread the word too . . .
